General Nature of Work
The Plastic Surgery Medical Assistant is responsible for providing outstanding patient care to both pre- and post-operative patients. They exemplify a positive attitude and support the team’s effort in providing a world-class experience to every patient. They will be able to multitask and work well in a fast-paced environment. They will also support the team’s initiative in achieving and surpassing sales goals by recommending the practices products and services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sets up rooms, sterilizes equipment, inventories supplies, prepares the instruments and equipment required for procedures (both pre and post procedure)
  • Assists provider with office visit including rooming patients, recording vitals, obtaining patient consent, prepping patient for surgery, scribing for provider, and updating patient medical record accordingly.
  • During the operation they will be responsible for passing instrumentation and sterile supplies to provider, will also assist with suture removals and injections.
  • Assists with administrative tasks including prescription refills, referrals, medical record updates, and patient education.
  • Documents historical patient care by taking patient photographs and scanning all pertinent information into patient medical record
  • Maintaining an overall sterile environment throughout the surgery and keeping operating rooms sterile requires
  • Properly documents follow up care instructions for patient; performs follow up calls to patients post procedure
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor and appearance, is trustworthy and punctual
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge and understanding of payer medical policy guidelines while utilizing these guidelines to manage authorizations effectively
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc…

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent REQUIRED
  • 3 years previous experience in a healthcare setting as a surgical technician REQUIRED
  • Modmed EMA EMR experience a plus
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with physician, patients, co-workers, and vendors
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
  • Detail oriented/critical thinking and able to handle multiple tasks.
